Exotic-looking Brazilian tree with fragrant, vivid lilac-blue clusters of trumpet shaped flowers in summer. Perfect for Bonsai, containers and indoors as a houseplant as it will flower when still quite small and tolerates pruning well. Not a frost tolerant tree so it will need to be overwintered in a frost free place, but when mature it will withstand a light frost. Lovely trained as a standard.
Tender Tree (min 2C)
Height: 5m in natural habitat, can be pruned to any size.
Flowers: Summer though indoor trees can flower at any time
Position: Full sun & well-drained soil
GROWING GUIDE
Sowing Instructions: Sow at any time of the year. Sow very thinly in trays or pots of good seed compost, just cover the seeds with compost and place in a propagator or seal inside a polythene bag. Maintain an optimum temperature of 20-25C and germination should take place in 10-30 days.
Growing Instructions: Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle into 7.5cm pots and grow on at 15-20C with plenty of light but shaded from direct midday sun. Repot as necessary and feed monthly with a general purpose plant food. Can be placed outdoors once night temperatures reach around 10C.
